During the Second World War, my home county of Lincolnshire boasted somewhere in the region of 50 active airfields and for this reason was often reffered to as "Bomber County".
Today however, a mere half dozen or so of these remain in active RAF service. The remainder having long since fallen 'surplus to requirements' and either reverted to agriculture, or been redeveloped.
This site is primarily dedicated to showing what remains of these bases, both former and current, in and around Lincolnshire. However I also hope to expand on this and include museums, cold war installations and other military places of interest from around the country wherever possible.
Incidentally, if anyone has any war time photos of any of these old airfields they'd like to email me I'd be interested in hearing from you. |
