| One of the many temporary airfields built around Lincolnshire during WW2, the remains of former RAF Metheringham can be found 2 miles South-East of the village, which is some 10 miles North of Sleaford (or 10 miles South-East of Lincoln) adjacent to the B1189 road.
The airfield opened mid war in 1943 as a bomber airfield and closed again some 3 years later in 1946 following the wars end. Several of the old tech site, buildings built around the B1189, which also formed part of it's Western perimiter track, still remain and in good condition, having been converted into induistrial units. The remains of the old control tower, which has been partially demolished, are visible from the old NE-SW runway and a memorial to the old base can be found on what was once the old Eastern perimiter track, both of which are now public roads. There is a small museum to the old airfield located on the former domestic site next to Westmoor farm, West of the B1189, which is open during the Summer.
