Sandwiched between the A15 and B1398 roads about 8 miles North of Lincoln, just East of the village it takes its name from, lies former RAF Ingham.
Built on farmland, Ingham (sometimes referred to as Cammeringham after another village a mile to the South-West) was open between 1940-1945 and was unusual for a bomber airfield in that it had only grass runways.
The site reverted to agriculture almost immediately after the wars end. Today a few buildings still remain, but there is very little to indicate to the untrained eye that there was ever an airfield there.
A few workshops to the South of the site still remain, but are virtually unidentifiable, having been reclad and now forming part of a small set of industrial units by the crossroads on Ingham Lane and the B1398. The old control tower still stands in a very run down state, though this is located on private property behind Cliff House, which was used as an officers mess during the war.
A single T2 hanger remains to the North of site, which has been reclad and extended, and is currently used for private warehousing. A few run down former domestic site buildings just North of the old hanger still stand by the side of the road, which are currently used as farm stores.
Please note that although a public footpath does run along the front of Cliff House, the control tower itself is very much on private property, being located in the back garden of the house. If you visit the site, please respect the owners privacy. The close-up shots were taken only after securing permission from the owner (a big thankyou to the gentleman in question).
