One of the many temporary airfields to be built around Lincolnshire during WW2, Hibaldstow, located 10 Miles South-East of Scunthorpe, just off the A15 to the East of the B1206 road, mid-way between the villages of Hibaldstow and Redbourne, was open between 1941-1945.

Upon its closure, the flying field reverted back to agriculture almost immediately and most of the buildings and hangers were pulled down soon after. The runways and perimeter tracks are mostly still intact though and used for a variety of different purposes.

The Eastern half of the former W-E runway is used as an airstrip by a parachute centre and glider club, who both operate on North of the airfield and keep the theme of aviation alive, along with an Aero models club. A driving School operate on Western side of the Northern peri-track, with the remaining hard standings all being used for storage by the farmer who owns the site.

The old control tower is still standing, having been fully renovated and converted into a house, but apart from that very few original buildings still remain on the site. A couple of shelters, hut bases and piles of rubble are all that remain of the various dispersed sites that existed South of the airfield around Carr lane.

Please note that with the site being divided between an active airfield and private farmland access is limited. A big thankyou to the homeowners who kindly allowed me to photograph the old control tower and even provided me with some photos of the place prior to renovation.
