Named after the village of Wainfleet All Saints some 2 miles to the North-East, about 7 miles South-West of Skegness, Wainfleet is one of 3 active gunnery ranges, along with Holbeach and Donna Nook, based around the Lincolnshire coastline.

The site opened in 1938. The range itself is located on the marshes just beyond the main technical site on Sea lane.

Trivia buffs may wish to note that the site had previously been used by the army as an artillery range during the 1890’s. It was also the main range used by the Dambusters squadron to test their automatic bomb sights on.

The outer edge of the range is open to members of the public most weekdays, which is how I was able to acquire these pictures.
