Located in Morkery woods, East of the A1 about 13 miles South of Grantham and just South of RAF North Witham airfield. RAF South Witham, which like its northern namesake was named after the village to the West, was a munitions dump which supplied all the neighbouring airfields with bombs and ammunition.
The site opened in 1942 and remained active post war up until 1956, closing around the same time as North Witham.
Today the area is run by the forestry commission and is open to the public. However, all that remains to indicate the sites former use are the concrete tracks that honeycomb the forest and a few hut bases. |
