Faldingworth started life as a bomber station, located about 8 miles North of Lincoln and some 5 miles South-West of Market Rasen. The station took its name from the nearby village located a mile to the West.

The base opened towards the end of WW2 in 1944, but remained open until 1948 when it was then mothballed and held as an inactive site. Part of the Western side of the airfield was later redeveloped by the MOD for use as a nuclear weapons store, which opened in 1957 and serviced the missiles for nearby Scampton. The remainder of the old airfield reverted to agricultural use.

The Weapons store closed in 1972 and was initially sold to a munitions firm, but today is used as a secure storage area. The rest of the old airfield is still used for farming and was sold to its present owners in the late 90s.

A memorial to the former Polish squadrons that occupied the former airfield has been erected on the Easten end of the main runway, so access to the airfield side of things is possible, though as part of the site is still used for explosives testing by the firms from the nearby secure store, the site is often kept gated off so permission has to be first sought from the keyholders (their numbers are displayed on the gate).

The former weapons store is totally off limits as this is very much a high security storage facility. Although the former sentry towers from its MOD era have been removed, the area is still encircled by 10 foot barbed wire fences.

Most of the airfield buildings have been demolished, except for a hanger and a couple of communal sight buildings that exist on dispersed sites outside of the airfield. Most of the runways still exist though the N-S runway has been narrowed.
