Situated a mile North of the village, about 5 miles North-West of Louth, RAF Kelstern was originally a WW1 RFC Emergency Landing Ground, but after the onset of WW2, was developed into a bomber airfield.

The new site opened in 1943 but shut just before the end of the war in 1945. Most of the old runways and perimiter tracks have been churned up and the fields used again for farming, but sections still remain, along with a few buildings on the old tech site, which was based around Salters Lane, and are now used as farm stores.

A memorial to the site is located close to "Kelstern Crossroads" on what was once the West side of the airfield at the juction of Limber Hill rd. and Salters lane.
