There are virtually no traces left of this former bomber airfield, which was located 4 miles South-West of Lincoln city centre about 2 miles South-East of Skellingthorpe village between the B1378 and B1190 roads.

The airfield was open between 1941-1952. Most of the buildings were demolished immediately after its closure, the rest were pulled down over the years as newer building develpments slowly took over the old site. The old control tower was still standing derilict up until the early 80's, but was pulled down during this time.

Today the area is now the Birchwood housing estate and unless you knew of it's previous existence, would never guess this was once a busy RAF station. Although there are still a few traces to be found round the estate if you know where to look.

A small section of peri-track remains alongside the playing fields round the back of the Birchwood community centre between Fulmar road and Birchwood avenue. Also, a single dispersal pan survives in Birchwood community park on the South-East corner of the estate. Parts of the old bomb stores remain on the West side of the estate behind Woodfield avenue, though these are now disected by the A46.

There's a memorial to the old site in the car park at the Birchwood Community Centre. There's also another one at the nearby Manser school on Woodfield avenue, however this is located inside the school itself and so access is not straighforward. A heritage room, containing photographs, station memoribillia and a layout of the old site can be found down the road in Skellingthorpe village adjacent to Skellingthorpe community centre.
