Waddington is one of few RAF stations still in active use in Lincolnshire today. Situated East of Waddington village, about 5 miles South of Lincoln city centre between the A15 and A607 roads.

The base originally opened in 1916 as an airfield for the RFC and is one of the oldest stations in the county. Though there was a brief period of inactivity after WW1, it became fully functional again early 1920’s, and was later expanded. During WW2 the base served as a bomber station and today is home to several AWAC and Nimrod surveillance squadron’s and claims to be one of the RAF’s busiest operational airfields.

There is a viewing area opposite the airfield along the A15 close to the northern end of the runway, where aviation enthusiasts can view aircraft taking off and landing. This is where many of these pictures where taken from. Other pictures were taken during the annual Waddington Airshow, which allowed me access to take close ups of the old control towers.

If you fancy attending the Waddington Airshow for yourself, this is usually held during the last weekend of June. More details can be found on the Waddington Airshow website on the links section.
